AADD is pleased to report
that the Interfaith Disabilities Network (IDN), which was formed by
AADD and has been a part of its programs for several years, now has
a new home at the Bobby Dodd Institute. (Some may recall that
the Bobby Dodd Institute, itself, was for many years an AADD program
that was spun off and has prospered.) The Interfaith
Disabilities Network, a non-sectarian effort, is one of the first organizations of its kind in the country. The program's mission is to increase opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families by educating and engaging faith communities to cultivate inclusive relationships with people with disabilities. In establishing such relationships, the program has helped individual members enrich their own lives while allowing communities of faith to benefit from the gifts that individuals with developmental disabilities have to offer.
The Network includes individuals from diverse faith and disability communities and seeks to help congregations become inclusive through collaboration, information sharing, and education. Outreach specialists have helped coordinate transportation to and from services for the individuals we help to support.
It may be noted that AADD has a longtime partnership with the Candler School of Theology, which serves as a disabilities training resource for seminary students.
