Since AADD's founding in 1956, we have worked to advance a public agenda of participation and inclusion for people with developmental disabilities and their families. AADD has successfully advocated for a variety of issues, ranging from legislation to require infant metabolic screening that detects preventable forms of mental retardation to the expansion and enhancement of community services that enable individuals with disabilities to live, work and contribute to their communities. A core philosophy of our public policy efforts is to empower people with the information and skills to become effective advocates for system change.
