Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders:
Awareness and Support

One of the pioneering programs is FASD Education & Awareness program, the first Atlanta-based campaign to educate communities on FASD, the only developmental disability known to be 100 percent preventable and 0% curable. FASD remains the fastest growing cause of developmental disabilities; FASD affects 40,000 babies in the United States every year, according to the March of Dimes. Yet some doctors still tell pregnant women it's okay to have an occasional glass of wine!

Through community-based programs in schools and community centers, AADD works to educate women of childbearing age that no amount of alcohol during pregnancy is safe for the developing fetus. AADD's objective? To dramatically reduce the number of babies born with FASD in Georgia by 2008 and to provide support to families living with FASDs.
