84%: Estimated percentage of people with disabilities who are unemployed and want to work, according to 1994 National Organization on Disability Survey of Americans with Disabilities. With support, most people with disabilities can work successfully. AADD pioneered community-based employment for Georgians with developmental disabilities, and continues to support people in securing employment and keeping jobs with major corporations such as Publix Supermarkets, The Kroger Company, and Pike Family Nurseries.
100%: Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is 100% preventable and 0% curable, yet it remains the fastest growing known cause of developmental disabilities. FAS and Alcohol Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder (ARND) affect 40,000 babies in the United States every year, according to the March of Dimes. Yet some doctors still tell pregnant patients it's okay to have an occasional glass of wine. AADD works to educate women of childbearing age that no amount of alcohol during pregnancy is safe for the developing fetus. AADD's objective is to dramatically reduce the number of babies born with FAS and ARND in Georgia.

6000: Estimated number of people with developmental disabilities waiting for home-based and support services in Georgia, with approximately 2000 in Atlanta. AADD, in partnership with the Unlock the Waiting Lists! Campaign, advocates for increased state funding for community services for more Georgians. We are working toward the day when all Georgians with developmental disabilities receive the quality care they deserve, and aging parents don't have to be afraid to die for fear there is no one to care for their adult child with developmental disabilities.
9.9%: Estimated percentage of jailed offenders who have developmental disabilities. According to some research, people with developmental disabilities are three times more likely to be incarcerated, as they often do not understand the questions they are being asked by law enforcement officials. AADD is working to help police officers, prosecutors, and judges better understand people with developmental disabilities and their needs. This work helps keep innocent people out of jail
70% - 90%: Percentage of men and women with developmental disabilities who become victims of violence and/or sexual abuse. Forty percent of women with developmental disabilities are victims ten or more times in their lives! Through AADD's Women Against Violence (WAV) group, women who have experienced abuse are learning to stand up for themselves. They are beginning to trust again, and are modeling self-respect for their children and peers.
