Employment Specialist
AADD seeks an Employment Specialist for the Georgia Family Support Program, a program which provides support to families and individuals with developmental disabilities so that they can remain in the community and participate fully.
Essential Duties
- Develop consistent, ongoing relationship/contact with assigned participants in order to assess each participant’s unique skills, support and training needs, goals, desires, job preferences, and fears. Contact will be a combination of in-person visits and/or telephone.
- Develop job leads using mail, telephone, and personal visits and provide information to the employer and community to promote interest in hiring persons with developmental disabilities.
- Assess potential employment sites for feasibility and accessibility.
- Support participants and/or arrange interviews for candidates with prospective employers and transport participants to interviews. Observe or assist with interview as needed. Contact employer to ascertain the outcome of the interview. Communicate appropriate information to the participant.
- Continue contact with participant and employer after placement to assure successful performance, determine problems, and areas needing improvement.
- Maintain records on participant interviews and contacts and employer contacts. Document in participant files all supports provided, participants’ feedback, and progress in a timely manner. Complete necessary forms.
- Maintain knowledge of best practices in the field of employment of persons with developmental disabilities and acquire all required training.
Qualifications: Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Two years experience with persons with developmental disabilities.
- Two years of experience developing job leads or job coaching.
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Computer Skills (MS Word, MS Access)
- Cultural competence
- Good interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated coaching/teaching skills.
